Steps You Should Take to Repair the Corrupted Outlook Profiles

There are many reasons why an Outlook profile can become corrupted. In some cases, it may be due to a hardware or software issue. In other cases, it may be due to a user error. Regardless of the cause, a corrupted Outlook profile can cause a number of problems.

If you are using Microsoft Outlook and your profile has become corrupted, there are 10 steps you can take to try to repair the problem.

1) Restart Outlook:

One of the first things you should try is restarting Outlook. This can often resolve minor issues with corrupt profiles. To do this, simply close Outlook and then re-open it. If the problem persists, move on to the next step.

2) Exit and Restart:

3) Delete the Navigation Pane Settings File:

Another thing you can try is deleting the Navigation Pane Settings file. This file contains information about your Outlook profile and settings. In some cases, this file can become corrupt and cause problems. To delete this file, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Inside of this folder, look for a file named “NavPane.xml.” Delete this file and then restart Outlook.

4) Delete the Signatures File:

If you are using signatures in Outlook, the signature file can become corrupt and cause problems. To delete this file, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Inside of this folder, look for a file named “signatures.xml.” Delete this file and then restart Outlook.

5) Delete the Forms Cache File:

The forms cache files stores information about custom forms that you have used in Outlook. In some cases, this file can become corrupt and cause problems. To delete this file, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FORMS

Inside of this folder, delete the file named “FRMCACHE.DAT.” Once you have deleted this file, restart Outlook.

6) Delete the Views File:

The views file stores information about the different views that you have used in Outlook. In some cases, this file can become corrupt and cause problems. To delete this file, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Inside of this folder, look for a file named “views.xml.” Delete this file and then restart Outlook.

7) Delete the Extend.dat File:

The extend.dat file stores information about extensions that you have installed for Outlook. In some cases, this file can become corrupt and cause problems. To delete this file, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Inside of this folder, look for a file named “extend.dat.” Delete this file and then restart Outlook.

8) Delete the Views2 File:

The views2 file stores information about the different views that you have used in Outlook. In some cases, this file can become corrupt and cause problems. To delete this file, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Inside of this folder, look for a file named “views2.xml.” Delete this file and then restart Outlook.

9) Run the Inbox Repair Tool:

If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2003 or earlier, you can use the Inbox Repair Tool to repair a corrupt profile. To do this, exit Outlook and then go to the following location on your computer:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033

Inside of this folder, double-click on the file named “scanpst.exe.” This will launch the Inbox Repair Tool. Follow the prompts to scan your Outlook profile for errors.

10) Recreate Your Outlook Profile:

If none of the above steps work, you will need to recreate your Outlook profile. To do this, exit Outlook and then go to the Control Panel. In the Control Panel, click on “Mail” and then click on “Show Profiles.” This will open the Mail dialog box. In the Mail dialog box, click on the “Add” button to create a new profile. Follow the prompts to create your new profile. Once you have created your new profile, restart Outlook and see if the problem persists.
