TOKYO: Ashleigh Barty arrived in Japan on Tuesday. Australia’s chef de mission Ian Chesterman confirmed that the tennis world number one will not be staying at the Olympic village while she is there.
Barty, who won her maiden Wimbledon trophy last week, hopes to keep the momentum going and add an Olympic medal to her collection.
Four athletes have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Olympic village so far, including three South African and one Japanese athlete.
Chesterman stressed that Australia has not told its athletes to avoid athletes from a specific country.
